清华大学美术学院的前身是中央工艺美术学院，成立于1956年，是中国第一所高等设计艺术院校，汇集了当时全国最优秀的美术教育家、民族民间艺术研究者和海外留学归来的艺术家、设计家，在此后近四十年里是中国设计艺术领域唯一的一所独立建制的高等设计艺术院校，学院的教学思想和教学体系一直主导着中国现代设计艺术教育的发展，始终引领着中国设计艺术的发展走向。1999年11月并入清华大学，开始了在综合性大学中发展的新篇章。根据国家高等教育管理体制改革和布局结构的调整精神，经国家教育部批准，1999年11月20日中央工艺美术学院并入清华大学，更名为清华大学美术学院。中央工艺美术学院并入清华大学，是我国高等教育管理体制改革的一项重大成果，它体现了科学与艺术相结合的二十一世纪高等教育的发展趋势。清华大学雄厚的教育基础和实力与中央工艺美术学院完整的艺术设计教育体系相结合,优势互补，非常有利于学科的建设与发展,也有利于培养德、智、体、美全面发展的具有良好人文精神和创造性的优秀人才，对创建世界一流大学有着重要意义。
Academy of Arts & Design , Tsinghua University
Academy of Arts & Design , Tsinghua University, formerly known as the Central Academy of Arts and crafts, was founded in 1956. It is the first higher design art college in China. It has gathered the best art educators, researchers of national folk art, and artists and designers who have returned from overseas study. In the past 40 years, it is the only independent higher design art in the field of design art in China The teaching ideology and teaching system of the academy have been leading the development of modern design art education in China and the development trend of Chinese design art. In November 1999, it was incorporated into Tsinghua University, which started a new chapter in the development of comprehensive universities.According to the national higher education management system reform and the adjustment of the layout structure, with the approval of the Ministry of education, the Central Academy of Arts and crafts was merged into Tsinghua University on November 20, 1999, and its name was changed to the Academy of Arts & Design , Tsinghua University. The incorporation of the Central Academy of Arts and crafts into Tsinghua University is an important achievement in the reform of China's higher education management system. It reflects the development trend of higher education in the 21st century, which combines science with art.
